Worship at HoCo!

Join us on Sundays for joy, love, peace, and more. Our 10:00 am Sunday service includes the Blessing of our Children, during which we pray that they may know God's love, joy, peace, and justice. We are known as “a singing congregation” and music is very important to us. We celebrate the Holy Eucharist every Sunday, and love standing around our Holy Table to receive Holy Communion surrounded by our friends. We often use resources that include expansive language and beautiful images to help us connect with God. We use resources from both the Episcopal Church, such as Enriching our Worship and from other sources, such as Sanctified Art. https://sanctifiedart.org

Holy Comforter has long been known for "pushing the envelope", liturgically speaking. Our particular strength among Episcopal churches in Richmond has been our willingness to intentionally and purposefully experiment with our forms of worshiping God while maintaining and honoring our Episcopal tradition.

Worship Services

10:00 am Sundays Holy Eucharist

Every week a team of people makes it possible for us to hear wonderful readings from the Bible, sing songs, share communion, and enjoy engaging sermons that connect our faith tradition with what is happening in our world today. You will often hear sermons with justice themes on topics such as racism, gun violence, climate change, and more. At the same time, our sermons are helpful for prayer and knowing that everyone is loved by God. Following our service, we enjoy Connections - a time of fellowship and often coffee in our parish hall.

Story Time 4:30 pm on the Third Sunday of Each Month

Story Time is a service for children, their families, and friends of all ages (with communion). The celebrant tells the great stories of the Bible in words that kids can understand. Ellen Hall, our music leader for the service, brings a lot of energy is brought to the experience. Children and adults are invited to play instruments that we provide for the fun songs that one can sing without needing to read. Kids love the songs, and we are told that they sing them during the week in the back of the car.

Mid-week, Wednesday Worship, Centering Prayer and Holy Eucharist

Join us at 11:30 am in the church for twenty minutes of Centering Prayer. At noon, every Wednesday, we celebrate the Holy Eucharist. We use prayers from various resources for this service, such as Daily Prayer for All Seasons, a publication of the Episcopal Church.
